Export Data: How to Bulk Download

NOTE: Bulk download files contain a comprehensive and detailed amount of information which may contain up to millions of data points. We thus advise users to use a specialized data management software that are capable of handling large data files such as SQL server, E-View, Ultra Edit, etc.  It is user's decision to decide which software to use, and we are not in a position to recommend any specific software on this matter.

To download data:

Sign-in into your account or register for a new account.

Either go to the "Download IMF Data" tab, or, for some datasets, click on the top-right hand corner of a dataset portal.

Click on the Bulk Download button  located next to the dataset or the Bulk Download icon  in some data portals.

It enables a download of an entire database/dataset and it also provides the option to select specific indicators and/or countries. All downloads are zipped and sent directly to the email provided for your account.  You can also track progress and access previous downloads through your account once you have signed in (My Data).

The default setting for bulk download is the entire dataset with all indicators and countries being selected.

To select specific/multiple indicators and/or countries from the download interface, select the navigation points highlighted below to view all available indicators and/or countries.  Thereafter, do a right click to quickly select and/or deselect indicators and/or countries, as desired.

Once users have initiated the download process, they are able to track the progress of their download activity through 'My Data '.

The status of data downloads are shown under the 'Downloads' tab.  Also, please note that previously downloaded data files will be saved and accessible for 30 days.

Open the download tab in My Data and click on the Download icon   to open datasets download.

Once the zipped file has been downloaded, go to the Downloads section of one's computer to find the zipped folder, in which, users can find the bulk download file in it.

Also, in order to make bulk download files more easily consumable by a data management software, we suggest the following:

1. Download the data in a time series format to reduce the file size.

2. Download data by selecting a desired subset of indicators, countries, etc.
